Pyracantha used to be extremely common here in Virginia until extreme cold one winter destroyed most of them. They are making a come-back as various nurseries have been stocking them a great deal.
They are thorny and bear small berries. The branches are very angular allowing a bonsai enthusiast to develop interesting forms.
